What is The Pony Club?

The Pony Club is an international voluntary youth organisation for youngsters interested in ponies and riding.
It was founded in England in 1929 and is now represented in 18 countries and has a membership exceeding

association of riders in the world. A majority of the most successful riders in all disciplines of British equestrian
competition have been Members of The Pony Club.

The objectives are:
  • To encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses
and riding
  • To give instruction in riding and horsemastership and to educate Members to look after and to take
proper care of their equines
  • To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty to create strength of character and self-discipline
Membership is available to children until the end of The Pony Club Year or the Centre Membership Subscription
Year, whichever is relevant, in which they become 21 years old.

Associate Membership is available for persons aged over 21 until the end of the Pony Club Year, or the Centre
Membership Subscription Year, whichever is relevant, in which they become 25 years old. Associate Members
must previously have been either Branch or Centre Members.

The Pony Club Headquarters are at Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, England, from where
The Pony Club is managed by a permanent staff responsible to the governing body - Council.
Thailand Pony Club is officially approved and affiliated with Pony Club Headquarters in England.

Each branch organises a programme of working rallies and other fixtures which may take place throughout the
year. These include competitions, an annual camp, visits and social events. The overriding aim is to make
membership informative and fun.

Inter Branch events are held to encourage team work and promote pride in the Branch leading to Selection for
Country Representative. These can include Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping, Mounted Games and Polo
which are all very popular.

Members are encouraged to take an interest in their work and improve their knowledge by working towards
certificates awarded by The Pony Club, of which there are eight graded standards starting with the ‘E’ Test and
culminating with the highly regarded ‘A’ Test, taken when a Member is around 20 years old. It is a beneficial
discipline for inclusion on a C.V. for future career prospects.
